Information for Saturday Night

Hello folks, you will have seen the news that we are all sold out for Saturday, which is exciting, it will be terrific to see Dr Feelgood and co in such a buzzy atmosphere.

A few pieces of information to help you for Saturday....

Directions
Can be found here - the hall is in the centre of main street, you cannot miss it.

Doors Open 7.30

May DJ
May DJ will be playing some blues and boogie between acts to keep your feet dancing – from blues legends to boogie classics all from his collection of vinyl oldies. Expect to hear some tunes you know and others you want to add to your collection.

Black Cat
Black Cat is a blues-funk-rock quartet from the Lune Valley that mixes up blues, rock and funk. They will be releasing their brand new album on the night that was recorded at BBC Salford. You can find out more about Black Cat here.

The Manakin Birds
A troup of highly energetic and passionate dance artists who have created an innovative dance company. Inspired by 1930′s Appalachian flatfoot dance, traditional English clog and tap dance we have mixed these genres up to create a new contemporary cocktail, of  (highly appropriate!) “feel good” dance. More about them  can be found here.

We will have a live raffle draw.  Please support our raffle, we are a not-for-profit organisation and we need every penny we can to underwrite future events.

Dr Feelgood
Need no introduction but here is the link in case.  It will be amazing to see them in our village hall.

There will also be a bar
Serving Milk and Alcohol....and an opportunity to purchase merchandise from the artists.

Please note the evening will be mostly standing and dancing, we do not plan on having many chairs in the hall.

I hope to post more information as the week goes on...watch this space.....

Dr Feelgood to headline Lunesdale Fest 2013!

Hot news just in, we have secured a booking for Dr Feelgood to play at Whittington Village Hall, Saturday 7th Dec 2013.  This is an amazing opportunity folks, the UK's premier R&B band, brimming with attitude, to play in our village hall in the Lune Valley.  It doesn't get better than that. Tickets to be released soon, meanwhile here is their biog (as if you needed to know):

DR. FEELGOOD
Formed on Canvey Island in Essex in the early 1970s Dr. Feelgood remains
one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues acts in the world.
The raw and uncompromising style of their performance resulted in the
album Stupidity that immediately went to the number one position in the
U.K. charts.

Dr. Feelgood have also enjoyed global success with a string of hit singles
including Roxette, Back in the Night, Milk and Alcohol, Down at the
Doctors, She Does it Right, Going Back Home and See You Later
Alligator - which gave the group their first gold record.

The last album to feature Lee Brilleaux - Down at the Doctors, was
recorded live at the Dr. Feelgood Music Bar on Canvey Island, (now the site
of the Oysterfleet Hotel) just two months before he died.

The current line up features the rhythm section Kevin Morris on drums
and Phil Mitchell on bass, both 29 years in the band and Steve Walwyn
on guitar who has been with the band for 23 years. Vocalist Robert Kane
(formerly of the Animals) is the most recent addition – joining in 1999.
Recent releases include a DVD - Live in London and CD Repeat
Prescription - a collection of some of the bands most enduring songs but
with a fresh approach.

Julien Temple’s film Oil City Confidential released on 2nd
February 2010  tells the story of the bands formative years featuring the Wilko Johnson era.
May 2011 saw the digitally re – mastered re release of Chessmasters
originally released in 2000 on EMI Records … the band’s tribute to the
Chess label, home to many of the finest blues artists of the 20th
century and  the first Dr Feelgood album to feature Robert on vocals.

The band continues to tour extensively throughout the World.
